Providing forest school sessions at Primary and Secondary Schools across Gloucester, Cheltenham, Tewkesbury, Stroud, Cirencester Gloucestershire.
Into the Woods Forest school have been successfully providing weekly forest school sessions for Primary and Secondary schools throughout Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire for the past 7 years.
We can come to your school, setup a forest school area and run sessions on the school grounds, or we can find a suitable site local to your school where children can explore a wooded environment. We provide all the necessary equipment, including the ingredients to make dough and cook bread on an open fire plus planned activities suited to the age of students learning. We also have our own public liability insurance.
We can also offer the John Muir Award Scheme for groups of students wishing to spend more time in wild places.
The John Muir Award Scheme
Into the Woods Forest School can guide a group of students who wish to spend more time in wild places and achieve a John Muir award. The award is well recognised across the country and beyond, giving students something extra when composing their curriculum vitae.
The award is based on 4 Challenges:
- Discover a wild place – This can be a local park, school/centre grounds, beach, woods, river, mountain or national park.
- Explore it – Do things to increase the group’s awareness and understanding of this wild place. There is no set syllabus for this, the activities you chose to do should be guided by the group’s interests.
- Conserve it – Take some practical action to preserve this wild space – this could be picking litter, clearing an invasive species, doing a survey and sharing the results, making bug hotels or planting pollinators. Again, what you do is up to you!
- Share – Share your Award experience in whatever ways suits your group – e.g. photos, taking someone else on a guided walk of your wild space, writing a poem or displaying a piece of artwork.
